GRESB is an international sustainability framework that compares how major infrastructure assets around the world manage and perform in terms of the environment, society, and government (ESG).

GRESB Sector Leaders are the best companies in their sector, region, and type of ownership, based on the GRESB assessment.

LLA was named a GRESB Infrastructure Sector Leader and “Most Improved” in the Transport: Airport Companies category. This shows that it is committed to being a leader in making aviation more sustainable.

David Vazquez, London Luton Airport Head of Sustainability, commented:

“Sustainability is at the core of our business, and as we continue to grow, we recognise that the role we can play for our people, our surrounding communities, the economy, and our environment has never been more important.

“This recognition highlights the progress we are making against our ambitious sustainability commitments and the advances we have made with our ESG governance structure and reporting of environmental performance. We have dedicated ESG targets across our operation and we aim to continue to establish and embed sustainability across all aspects of our organisation.”

Sebastien Roussotte, CEO of GRESB, said:

“GRESB Sector Leaders are the top-performing organisations, leading the way to a net-zero future and pulling the industry forward. We applaud this year’s Sector Leaders for their commitment, leadership, and dedication to ESG and sustainability.”

Between 2016 and 2019, LLA cut its carbon emissions by 30%, even though the number of passengers went up by 23%. The airport has promised to be carbon neutral by no later than 2026 and to have direct operational emissions that produce net zero carbon by 2040.
