The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has announced its goal to become a carbon-neutral organization before 2050 and reduce its total carbon emissions by 50% before 2030. To achieve this, the SFC has conducted a carbon footprint assessment and identified key sources of emissions, such as electricity consumption and investments, to target for reduction. The SFC plans to collaborate with asset managers to decarbonize its investment portfolio and work with landlords and suppliers to find low-carbon alternatives. The SFC’s commitment to transparency and accountability, including periodic disclosures on its carbon reduction efforts, is expected to encourage other businesses to contribute to the global effort to combat climate change.
