Wind Power Becomes UK’s Largest Source of Electricity for First Time

During the first quarter of 2023, wind power supplied a larger share of electricity in the UK than gas-fired power stations for the first time. Wind energy generated 32.4% of the country’s electricity, while gas produced 31.7%. Additionally, almost 42% of the UK’s electricity came from renewable sources such as wind, solar, biomass, and hydro. The report recommends investing in carbon-negative technologies, such as bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, to help the UK become a leader in carbon removals and achieve its net-zero targets.
