EIB Group and Santander To Mobilize €162 Million in Financing to Increase Energy Efficiency of Buildings

Santander and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a synthetic securitisation deal in Portugal to support energy efficiency investments in the country’s residential property market. The EIB, along with the European Investment Fund, will provide an €81m guarantee that will allow Santander to finance energy efficiency projects worth twice that amount. The individual projects will be subject to certain eligibility conditions and can reach a total investment of up to €25m, with a minimum term of two years. The agreement supports the European Performance of Buildings Directive, the Energy Efficiency Directive, and the Renewable Energy Directive, as well as Portugal’s National Energy and Climate Plan.
