Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) has secured $500 million in equity capital commitments from a mix of public and private pension funds and an insurance company based in the Nordic region, Germany, and the UK for its 1GT climate private equity strategy. The aim of 1GT is to invest in growth-stage companies that will collectively remove or avoid one gigaton of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions from the atmosphere between the date of investment and 2050, the UN’s target for “Net Zero.” The fund focuses on private companies in the mobility, power, sustainable food and agriculture, and circular economy sectors and is an Article 9 fund under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation. MSIM’s Head of Climate Private Equity Investing, Vikram Raju, views the fund’s achievement of its halfway goal as a significant milestone.
