Nike Launches First Hydrogen-Powered Inland Container Ship With Zero Carbon Emissions

Nike has unveiled the world’s first hydrogen-powered inland container ship, known as the “H₂ Barge 1,” which will transport products for Nike in Europe between Rotterdam and Belgium. The barge has zero carbon dioxide emissions and is expected to reduce 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. Nike is making efforts to reduce carbon emissions and work towards a zero-carbon and zero-waste future. In addition to launching the “H₂ Barge 1,” the company has also decreased the weight of its shipping cartons and is reducing its use of air freight. The launch of the “H₂ Barge 1” is part of Nike’s overall strategy to reduce carbon emissions and minimize the environmental impact of its products. The barge is scheduled to begin operating in partnership with Dutch shipping company Future Proof Shipping, hydrogen provider Air Liquide, and the BCTN network of inland terminals in June.
