Prototype of a Green Classification Framework for Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has released a discussion paper titled “Prototype of a Green Classification Framework for Hong Kong,” which outlines their current thinking on a local green taxonomy and seeks feedback from stakeholders on its development and implementation. The goal of this framework is to increase transparency and consistency in green finance policy-making by providing a classification system that aligns with the Common Ground Taxonomy, China’s taxonomy, and the EU taxonomy. The HKMA has employed the Climate Bonds Initiative to create a prototype of the framework, and stakeholders are invited to provide input by June 30, 2023. The discussion paper contains details on the prototype and the HKMA’s intended approach, as well as questions for stakeholders to consider.
