Ørsted To Issue €100 Million Blue Bond To Support Biodiversity

Ørsted, a company that produces renewable energy, has become the first energy company in the world to issue a blue bond. The €100 million bond will mature in 2028 and was issued in accordance with the IFC Blue Finance Guidelines. The purpose of the bond is to finance offshore biodiversity and sustainable shipping projects. The funds raised will be used to protect and restore marine and coastal biodiversity and to develop green ocean fuels for decarbonizing ocean vessels. The bond was arranged by NatWest Markets N.V. and was subscribed to by investors, including APG on behalf of ABP. The blue bond market is expected to grow significantly, as the green bond market has surpassed $2 trillion in total issuance.
