BBVA and IFC have jointly launched Colombia’s first blue bond, which aims to support projects aimed at protecting the country’s water resources. The initial tranche of $50m will be allocated to the construction of water and sewage treatment plants, ocean preservation, and the protection of lakes, moorlands, and mangroves. Blue bonds are issued to support aquatic biodiversity and promote sustainable use, management, and protection of marine resources. BBVA’s executive president in Colombia emphasized the bank’s commitment to increasing resources for green finance and building a more sustainable future.
