At the CPA Congress organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Ms Julia Leung, CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission, spoke about the importance of the new IFRS2 Sustainability Disclosure Standards by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) for Hong Kong as a leader in sustainable finance and an international financial center. She also discussed the SFC’s licensing regime for virtual assets trading platforms (VATPs). Ms Leung emphasized the significance of the ISSB standards as a global framework for sustainability disclosures, which can be adopted by various jurisdictions. She suggested that Hong Kong should be a role model and adopt these standards, starting with large-sized listed companies. Ms Leung viewed the ISSB standards as a common language for companies, regulators, and investors to address climate and environmental risks. She also highlighted the importance of responsible innovation for better infrastructure, transparency, efficiency, and investor experience in finance. Finally, Ms Leung encouraged accounting and auditing professionals to maintain high standards and ethics and learn about sustainable finance and Fintech.
