Circular to Licensed Corporations, SFC-licensed Virtual Asset Service Providers and Associated Entities – Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Financing of Terrorism Early Alert on United Nations Sanctions

On July 21, 2023, the United Nations Security Council’s sanctions committee responsible for administering sanctions against ISIL and Al-Qaida made changes to the details of two individuals on its sanctions list. As a result, licensed corporations, SFC-licensed virtual asset service providers, and associated entities are advised to update their screening databases with the updated information for the screening of customers and payments. These entities are also reminded to refer to a circular issued on February 7, 2018, which outlines the expected regulatory standards regarding UNSC sanctions that apply to them.
